After a hectic week, we made sure we had a pretty relaxing weekend, moving house a couple of times as well as visiting some breweries.
Saturday: we farewelled the amazing Eurobodalla Coast with a pleasant and relaxed mid-morning breakfast at Crumb Cafe Bar overlooking Corrigans Beach in Batehaven. Only 58km down the road now on the Shoalhaven Coast, we stopped at Ulladulla for a wander around town.
After enquiries at a couple of caravan parks, we drove about 5km up the road to the Milton Valley Holiday Park. A quick set up and half an hour later we were on the bike, headed back to Ulladulla, to visit the Wombat Brewery; funnily enough, not 5 minutes ride from the first caravan park that we tried.
After sitting and relaxing for a little while, we reluctantly tore ourselves away from the smell of an American BBQ and really good beers, to check out the local lighthouse in Ulladulla, the Warden Head Lighthouse - originally built in 1873 on the breakwater and shifted to its current site in 1879, still operational, but now automated. It is made of wrought iron plates - similar to Cape Jaffa Lighthouse which we visited earlier this year in Kingston SE in South Australia (that was made of cast iron).
We then discovered Cuppit's Estate out the back of Ulladulla, a farm to table operation offering their own wines, beers, restaurant and villa-style accommodation, overlooking rolling hills and Stony Creek.
A beautiful little ride back through winding farm and bush roads brought us back home, where we hopped off the bike and reverted to foot traffic, walking almost 2km into the charming little town of Milton. A wander up and down the main street, finding our way to the Milton Hotel, the house of the Dangerous Ales Brewery.
All three places today were very different: from a purpose-built brewery in an industrial estate with very laid back, welcoming, buzzing vibe - to an upmarket winery/brewery with boutique accommodation set out in the rolling hills, with young families running around - to a pub in a small, charming town. Don't you simply love variety! We topped off the day with a wood fired pizza in a small, very busy pizza restaurant, and a walk back home in the dark.
Sunday brought another short hop to move a tad further up the coast to Jervis Bay and the town of Huskisson. Again, we set up in the caravan park at White Sands pretty quickly, before heading back to Sussex Inlet on the bike. This weekend happened to be the annual BROE (Beach, Rock, Ocean, Estuary) fishing competition, with boat trailers parked up everywhere!
Sussex Inlet is also home to Swordfish Brewing, which has a delightful taproom overlooking the Inlet.
After a relaxing drink listening to live music, we rode back to Huskisson to the Flamin Galah Brewing Co., located in an industrial estate.
From there we finished at the Jervis Bay Brewing Co., where again, there was live music, a food truck and really homely, backyard atmosphere.
We were home early for a quiet dinner - a relaxing weekend tasting the local fare.
